This weekend one of my very best friends celebrated his wedding to probably the most perfect woman for him that you could imagine, with a truly awesome reception (two, in fact, but I'll come to that) attended by a great many friends and family. The wedding ceremony itself was actually back in December, a private affair they both ever-so-graciously let me crash. (Thank you for not beating me up, Cindy!) It was a long wait to party, but well worth it.
The second reception I mentioned was a traditional Ethiopian celebration for a number of couples that got hitched over the past year. I was honored to be invited to join all of these wonderful families and experience another culture's dance, food, and ceremony. I didn't get any photos of this one, since I was too busy absorbing the experience. I think I got the hang of eating with injera (although I still make a mess), but I don't think I'll ever be able to manage the shoulder-wiggling dance Tewaney and his friends and family are so adept at! It is an awesome treat to watch, though. This post comes a little late, since the reception was actually last Friday, but it took me three days of experimenting in the GIMP to figure out the right procedure to suitably enhance the photos I took with my camera phone. It doesn't do so well in low-light areas... they're still not great, but better than the muddy mess of the originals.
